People Under No King
A project of the Compagnie OUVRE LE CHIEN - Co-produced by Ensemble UN / In partnership with the Opéra National de Bordeaux
Conception and direction Renaud Cojo
Musical conception David Chiesa
The explosive duo Annabelle Chambon-Cédric Charron engage in a punk explosion orchestrated by Renaud Cojo and five improvising musicians. A performance that draws its energy from the origins of the movement.
"Punk is to hate any poetization of your state", summarizes Lester Bangs, gonzo reporter of the 70s, stoned American rock critic to whom we owe the invention of the word PUNK. In this project, it is the raging acronym of People Under No King. So there will be no master, no king, no boss on the set. But all the same a director, Renaud Cojo, who uses this punchy verve, to make a play on, around, and in the punk spirit. By choosing the mythical dancers of Jan Fabre, the couple Annabelle Chambon and Cédric Charron, and the very free musicians of David Chiesa's Ensemble Un, he knew that everything would be possible: friction of two instinctive forces, exultation of the bodies, physicality pushed to the extreme, devastated stage. For, isn't being a punk to burn everything at both ends, in a purifying and regenerating tabula rasa? Certainly the movement lived, woke up muséifié... And then? The piece returns to the energy of the beginnings and restores the musical and social context of this movement. The shadow of London and Detroit hovers, cities as contentious as burned by artistic energy. Renaud Cojo thus seems to continue his performative quest intertwined with the history of rock which, from David Bowie to Berlin, to the Discotake festival, also tells a state of mind.
